dc.description | These slides were presented as the closing reflection at the 2020 Midwest Data Librarian Symposium, held online and organized by colleagues at the University of Wisconsin - Madison, Gonzaga University, University of Pittsburgh, and University of Notre Dame on October 14-16, 2020. dc.description.abstract | This presentation reviews four previous closing reflections presented by the author at prior Midwest Data Librarian Symposium (MDLS) events. The talk compares the supportive environment that has become the norm at MDLS with "normal" experiences of a library career, drawing on a body of LIS literature showing that library workers are highly succeptible to burnout, in part due to professional cultures that exclude BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) colleagues, LGBTQIA+ colleagues, and colleagues with disabilities. The presentation concludes with visioning exercises for MDLS's future and a call for the Symposium to intentionally embrace its history of care, generosity, and attention in order to support and retain data librarians in the specialty and the profession. | en_US |

Subject: KUSW depositHi Marianne,
Please find attached a set of files for deposit in KUSW – these are from a recent presentation I did at the 2020 Midwest Data Librarian Symposium. I’ve included both the Powerpoint and a PDF printout that includes the notes. No need to deposit the abstract.txt file – it’s just to inform the description that gets put into the record.
Please let me know if you need anything else, and know that there’s no rush on this.
Thanks and best,
