This presentation reviews four previous closing reflections presented by the author at prior Midwest Data Librarian Symposium (MDLS) events. The talk compares the supportive environment that has become the norm at MDLS with "normal" experiences of a library career, drawing on a body of LIS literature showing that library workers are highly succeptible to burnout, in part due to professional cultures that exclude BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) colleagues, LGBTQIA+ colleagues, and colleagues with disabilities. The presentation concludes with visioning exercises for MDLS's future and a call for the Symposium to intentionally embrace its history of care, generosity, and attention in order to support and retain data librarians in the specialty and the profession.en_US
