Jonathan P. Lamb, associate professor of English, presented this keynote titled "Against Relevance" as part of the Kenneth Spencer Research Library 50th anniversary celebration on November 8, 2018. dc.description.abstractMuch of the discourse about and around higher education focuses on relevance as a central value. But because we cannot know the future, we have only the past to compare to the present. Repositories like the Spencer Research Library offer access to the past by way of material artifacts. This presentation offers several examples of how the items stored at the Spencer can shed light on the present.
