The author treats the processes that lead to the establishment in the prehistoric period of a given dialect area, in other words, a connection between two or more proto-related languages in a known or unknown geographical territory. By examining the hypothetical ancient Balkan-Baltic-Slavic dialect areal with the application of the theoretical argumentation, typical fallacious conclusions are revealed.
