Abstract
Oral history interview with Leni Salkind conducted by Timothy Miller in Lawrence, Kansas, on November 11, 2009. In this interview, Leni Salkind describes her experiences as a member of the Jewish community in Lawrence. She discusses the issue of religion in schools and the importance of religious education for children. She describes the Jewish merchants operating businesses in downtown Lawrence. She also discusses the difficulty of locating kosher meat in Lawrence and the importance of the Kansas City-area Jewish community and its resources to Jews living in Lawrence. She describes the evolution of gender roles within the Jewish community. This interview was conducted for the Religion in Kansas course taught at the University of Kansas by Dr. Timothy Miller in the fall of 2009.
