Remarks made in honor of Alexandra (Sandy) Mason on May 1, 1999, at the Kenneth Spencer Research Library at the University of Kansas. Sandy Mason’s long career as a librarian was honored by: David McKitterick, Nora Quinlan, A.C. Elias, Jr., Breon Mitchell, Gordon C. Sauer, Bernard M. Rosenthal, and Roger E. Stoddard. The tributes include discussions of the state of rare books and manuscripts librarianship, the role of collection development, and the importance of Sandy’s career to the larger field of libraries, as well as personal recollections.
