This collection explores the spiral nature of memory as it examines the way loss and one's reactions to loss repeat themselves in new guises and new contexts. Interspersing poetry with essays of memoir, Klayder examines her own growth as she experiences the losses and re-envisions her own life and the lives of those she knew and lost. Focusing on the subjects such death, illness, travel, and literature, the essays form a spiral beginning with Klayder's own childhood and culminating with her recognition of her own mortality.
