A systematic study of the chewing louse genus Tinamotaecola (Phthiraptera: Philopteridae) was undertaken, enabling us to recognize four species in the genus. The single previously recognized species, T. andinae Carriker, is redescribed for specimens from the Puna Tinamou, Tinamotis pentlandii (Tinamiformes: Tinamidae) from Bolivia, Chile, and Peru. One new species is described from the Elegant Crested Tinamou, Eudromia elegans (Tinamiformes: Tinamidae), from Argentina and two new species from the Red-legged Seriema, Cariama cristata (Gruiformes: Cariamidae), from Paraguay and Brazil. The family Heptapsogasteridae is placed as a junior synonym of the family Philopteridae.
