    Abstract
The Kansas Center for Community Economic Development (KCCED) at the University of Kansas has conducted several surveys about economic development in medium- and mid-sized Kansas communities (1989, 1993, 1996 and 1998). These surveys looked at how communities organize, plan, and finance their economic development efforts. In 2000, a survey (Update 2000) was conducted to update organizational and financial information obtained from previous KCCED surveys. Specifically, Update 2000 looked at: What group is primarily responsible for economic development in the the community (and county); Whether or not the community has an economic development director; Whether or not the the community has an economic development budget and its amount; and, How the community finances economic development.
