Input-output models have been applied to state and regional economies since the early 1950s. A quick glance through the literature reveals a continued interest in both the theoretical development and the application of I-O models at the regional level. The Kansas Long Term Modeling (KLTM) at the University of Kansas Institute for Public Policy and Business Research (IPPBR) recently conducted a survey of the use of regional input-output (I-O) models in the U.S., especially at the state level. The survey focused on state governments and university research institutes. We wanted to find out the extent to which I-O models are being used by state policy makers, and the types of models employed. We were particularly interested in the use of dynamic versus static models.en_US
