With the encouragement of state legislative initiatives, such as the Community Strategic Planning Assistance Act in 1990, Kansas communities began to assume greater responsibility for economic development. Currently, 100 of Kansas' 105 counties either have a strategic plan for economic development or are in the process of developing one. By looking at the strategic planning effort from a local perspective, including the early implementation efforts of the plans, we hope to contribute to the improvement of the strategic planning process in Kansas.en_US
