dc.description.abstract | The following report briefly highlights some of the trends in Hispanic-Owned businesses and the Hispanic population for Kansas and includes the Kansas City, MO-KS MSA (Metropolitan Statistical Area). These are important trends to look at because population size and economic activity are closely related. The characteristics of a region’s population are regarded as indicators of economic conditions and economic potential and it is important to look at those trends compared to state and national trends. Population is directly related to employment opportunities within an area, wage differentials between regions, and a community’s overall economic and social conditions. Growing communities are more likely to adapt successfully to a changing economic environment than areas with constant or decreasing population. Generally, areas of population growth are also areas of economic growth, whereas areas of population loss are areas that have suffered economic decline or restructuring. | en_US |
