The crux of [re]construction of forest animal reinvents the traditional “Hansel and Gretel” storyline, speaking directly from the mouth of Gretel as she works through abandonment and sexual trauma. As a whole, this collection explores transformative healing, determining how a body may resist traditional breaking. I understand these poems and prose pieces as a vigorous choice to inhabit the childhood trauma that first caused my desire to shed my body and heal through transformation.
