dc.description.abstract | For enslaved people surviving during the period before the Civil War the southern landscape was shaped by political, social, and geographical boundaries and obstacles to freedom that are almost unimaginable to modern observers. “Reconstructing Moses Grandy’s World” exposes the human costs associated with running away from enslavement like distance, navigational literacy, access to resources of shelter.
