dc.description.abstract | This study highlights the various organizations and strategies used by African Americans in a small semi-rural town to resist the institutionalized racism faced in their daily lives. The work argues that the "Free State" Myth was never a reality for thousands of the residents of Kansas. Lawrence is the focus of this study as a representative Black community in Kansas and a place where the culture and politics of African Americans throughout the country was transplanted in the wake of multiple migrations. | |
