This study looks at the plan of the Gournia megaron, an abbreviated version of the full plan as seen at Pylos, for example, cites several other examples of this abbreviated plan, and postulates that it was therefore conventional enough to have served as the administrative building for a high-ranking Mycenaean officer, like the provincial governor, the da-mo-ko-ro. The specific function of this officer might have been to keep open the portage route across the isthmus of Hierapetra.
