Abstract
This paper, prepared for the 30th anniversary conference of the School of International Arbitration at Queen Mary University of London, highlights some empirical studies on international commercial arbitration that have been published during the past ten years. Part 1 offers some comments on surveys and simulations as a source of quantitative data on international arbitration. Part 2 then highlights some non-survey studies of particular interest. It examines empirical research on (1) the use of arbitration clauses; (2) court enforcement of international arbitration awards; and (3) macroeconomic effects of international commercial arbitration.
