    Abstract
Dr. Harrison will demonstrate how GIS is transforming every aspect of transportation development and management from network design to operations and logistics. Success stories will come from a wide range of commercial and government applications covering air, water, rail, and highway transport. He will discuss major players and future trends in GIS for Transportation (GIS-T). Dr. Glen Harrison is the group leader of the Transportation Policy and Planning Group in the Center for Transportation Analysis (http://cta.ornl.gov/cta/) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. This is a group of 34 researchers and support contractors that focus on freight, energy, safety, supply chain, defense, and security studies and systems development for air, rail, water, and highway transportation systems. He has over twenty years experience in solving transportation, logistics, and supply chain management problems for the Department of Defense, Department of Energy, Department of Homeland Security, Agency for International Development, and World Bank. He has been a faculty member at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville ; Seoul National University , Ewha Woman's University, and Yonsei University in South Korea ; and Lincoln University in New Zealand . He is currently working with the Department of Energy to plan the transportation system for the movement of spent nuclear fuel from utility reactors to a repository site. His main research interests are in hazardous materials transportation, transportation security, military logistics, supply chain management efficiency, and East Asian geography.
