This five-act comedy presents an isolated community of men thirty years after being stranded on a desert isle in circumstances reminiscent of Lord of the Flies. In the decades since, the schoolboys cum social pioneers have traded savagery and violence for an anarcho-socialist paradise undergirded by an elaborate philosophy of communitarianism. Equal parts Animal Farm and Catch-22, their tranquil society is thrown into turmoil by the arrival of a modern castaway bearing dangerous philosophies of individualism and leisure. Engaging with themes of social control, myth-making, rationalism and gender, the play presents elements of both slapstick and tragic farce.
