This is one of hundreds of 60-second radio spots created by the Center for East Asian Studies (CEAS) for Kansas Public Radio (KPR). The purpose of this outreach program is to introduce the people of Kansas to the culture and current issues of East Asia.
Broadcast Transcript: As a rule, we expect to find Hello Kitty on fashion not in it. Well, VogueNippon aims to change all that. How? By making this pop culture icon--stubby legs and square body notwithstanding--into a runway model. In the April 26th issue of the glamour mag, Hello Kitty gets a makeover, shedding her no-name cutesy outfits for ensembles from the House of Dior. The little cat will also enjoy a shopping spree in Paris. And for those of you who were wondering: yes, it is the first time Dior has used a cartoon character to model their collection. But then again we can expect no less from a kitty that's always been the cat's meow. #ceas #hacker #japan #tsutsui
