dc.description.abstract | Oral history interview with Paul Gray conducted by Emily Stratton in Lawrence, Kansas, on December 10, 2010. In this interview, Paul Gray, lead pastor at the New Life in Christ Church, describes his journey from his background as a working jazz musician to his decision to join the ministry and establish a church that would be relevant to those looking for a contemporary worship experience. He describes the formation and early days of the New Life in Christ Church. He also discusses the church's ministries and community outreach activities, including music and theatre programs for at-risk youth and a free healthcare clinic for those without insurance which eventually became the Leo Center/Heartland Community Health Center. He also discusses funding sources for the medical ministry. He addresses the role of leadership and discipleship within the church, and resources that have helped to shape the philosophy of the church. This interview was conducted for the Religion in Kansas course taught at the University of Kansas by Dr. Timothy Miller in the fall of 2010. | |
