This essay provides a survey of recent initiatives by Germanists, Americanists, and cultural historians, for example, that aim to rediscover and re-evaluate German-language literary texts published in the United States. These scholars demonstrate that such literary works, most often found only in research libraries, can provide new insights into the German immigrant experience in the United States that can inform the interdisciplinary fields of transatlantic, transnational, and migration studies.
