dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this research paper is to provide an analysis of Trio for Clarinet, Viola, and Piano by the important twentieth-century American composer, Eric Ewazen. This paper will include information about his biography, two stylistic periods, stylistic approach, formal design, compositional technique, and the performers' point of view from Wakarusa Trio. Since the instrumentation is relatively unusual in this Trio, I will also discuss the unique qualities of his instrumental writing. I interviewed Ewazen about his life and his approaches to his Trio. Through this research, I want to introduce the new American music with this rare combination of instruments, as well as the musical world of Eric Ewazen, in which the Trio speaks for his musical language. | |
