Arbitration is widely used as a means of resolving transnational disputes involving American parties, albeit more widely for some types of contracts than others. The United States is frequently chosen as a situs for international arbitration proceedings, and American lawyers regularly appear as counsel and serve as arbitrators. This paper provides an overview of the law governing international arbitration in the United States.
