SLV: Članek obravnava socialno in psihološko ozadje in vlogo izbire in menjav jezikovnih zvrsti pri spontanem praktičnem sporazumevanju. Izbrana jezikovna zvrst in jukstapozicija izrazov iz različnih
zvrsti med govorjenjem namreč: odsevata socialno identiteto in psihično stanje govorečega
ter njegovo oceno situacije, razmerje do drugih udeležencev in odnos do predmeta pogovora.
ENG: The paper explores two aspects of the choice of specific language variety and the juxtaposition of
expressions from different varieties within spontaneous everyday communication, namely, the factors
governing the speaker's selections and their communicative effects. It suggests that both strategies
convey information about social identity and the psychological state of the speaker and
serve to define the situation and indicate his attitude to other participants and to the topic of the
discourse.

SLV: Članek odpira nekaj možnosti za raziskovanje nemodalne fonacije v slovenščini na primeru laringalizacije oz.
hripavega glasu. Predstavljene so pomembnejše splošne akustične in artikulacijske ugotovitve ter ekperimentalne
analize posameznih jezikov. Sledi analiza laringalizacije na primeru standardne in narečne (ziljske) slovenščine.
Avtor poskuša ugotoviti nekatere fonološke in fonetične prozodične vplive na pogostnost in vrsto laringalizacije
v slovenščini. Upoštevana je tudi pragmatična, parajezikovna, sociolingvistična in zunajjezikovna raba
laringalizacije.
ENG: The article opens up new possibilities for research into non-modal phonation in Slovene with regard to the case
of laryngealization or creaky voice. The most important acoustic and articulatory findings and experimental
analyses of individual languages are presented. Following this an analysis of laryngealization in case studies of
standard and dialectal (Zilja dialect) Slovene is given. The author attempts to elucidate some of the phonological
and phonetic prosodic influences on the frequency and type of laryngealization in Slovene. In addition, the
author considers pragmatic, paralinguistic, sociolinguistic, and extralinguistic uses of laryngealization.

števnosti in človeškosti.
ENG: In addition to the denotative meaning, the categorial lexical meaning is considered an immanent
component of the lexical meaning. It is defined as the set of categorial semantic features, existing
as gender in nouns, aspect in verbs etc. Defined in this way, the categorial meaning makes it
possible for changes on the level of categorial semantic features (e.g., Po {+count) + Pm {-count))
to be the criterion for the typologization of lexical polysemy. The paper presents such a typology
of nouns, taking into consideration two categorial properties: countability and humanness.

drugih slovanskih jezikih in v madžarščini poznajo podobne izposojenke. Vsi ti jeziki so
tako kot slovenščina sosedi bavarsko-avstrijske nemščine, ki mora torej biti neposredni jezik dajalec.

S-/Z- and the Grammaticalization of Aspect in Slavic
Dickey, Stephen M.

Grammaticalization

Aspect
ENG: It is argued that the phonetic coalescence of *sъ- and *jьz into a single prefix resulted in the (partial) grammaticalization of innovative s-/z- as the primary préverbe vide of the aspectual systems in a group of western languages (Czech, Slovak, Sorbian, Slovene). The other Slavic languages either did not grammaticalize a single prefix (Croatian/Serbian) or have grammaticalized
po- as their sole or primary préverbe vide (Russian, Bulgarian, Macedonian, Ukrainian, Belarusian); one Slavic language has near equal productivity of s-/z- and po- (Polish).

prevajanjem seznanjeni s kolokacijskimi omejitvami. Predstavljena je analiza napak skupaj s pogostnostjo
posamezne vrste napake, ki se je pojavila v študiji. Poudarek študije je na leksikalnih
kolokacijah, teprav delno upoštevamo tudi slovnične. V zadnjem delu članka so navedeni možni
razlogi za napake v prevodih študentov, podan pa je tudi kratek opis obravnave kolokacij v najobsežnejšem
slovensko-angleškem slovarju, ki je na voljo na trgu.
ENG: The article deals with collocations in general and then concentrates on contrastive problems encountered
by native speakers of Slovene when encoding. The emphasis is on a study conducted to
find out what types of mistakes are made in the field of collocations when native speakers of
Slovene translate from Slovene into English. The study was carried out among students of English
who had been given instructions about the collocational restrictions prior to the task. An analysis
of mistakes is presented together with the frequency of a specific type of mistake that appeared
in the study. The emphasis of the study is on lexical collocations, although grammatical collocations
are not entirely ignored. The last part of the article gives possible reasons for the mistakes in
the students' translations and provides a brief description of the treatment of collocations in the
most comprehensive Slovene-English dictionary available.

ENG: In a general cultural sense Thomas Linhart's Towards a History of Carniola (1788-1791) promotes
the all-Slovene national idea for which the work is of pivotal importance to Slovene historical

beginning of Slovene ethnography. In this context the article treats Slovene language material in
the book as an expression of Linhart's innovative linguistic ideas on Slovene in terms of substance,
structure and language ideology, which in a significant way shaped the tendencies in the
development of the Slovene standard language in the first half of the nineteenth century.
