dc.description.abstractThis paper looks at Igbo proverbs and idioms in the light of the existing linguistic theories. It tries to show that application of the current linguistic theories in the interpretation of Igbo proverbs and idioms will be futile without a consideration of context, pragmatics and the people's cultural tradition.
