Abstract
Differences in rendering Aegean men's costumes in Egyptian paintings has long been thought to represent cultural differences (Minoans vs. Mycenaeans). But Minoan men wore both kilts and breechcloths, while Mycenaean men tended to wear neither costume. What the Egyptian painters saw, then, were probably Minoans of different classes or in different activities.
