Abstract
ABSTRACT Media coverage of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict appears to be more balanced in Western world newspapers, especially in the United States and Britain, when compared with Middle East newspapers. A content analysis compared the work of three American and one British newspaper with a United Arab Emirates newspaper during a two-week period in 2002. The results indicated strong differences in how the newspapers portrayed Israelis and Palestinians. Unlike similar research on media coverage of the conflict, this study sought a deeper comparison of media coverage. The American newspapers portrayed Israelis slightly more positively than Palestinians, but their coverage was far more balanced when compared to the overwhelmingly negative portrayal of Israel in the Gulf News articles for the UAE newspaper.
