Abstract
Broadcast Transcript: During the seven weeks that the Buddha sat under his bodhi tree back in the sixth century BC, it's unlikely that he envisioned the scenario enacted here in Japan in the 21st Century. Buddhist monks from eight major sects gathered at the Tsukiji Honganji temple recently to show the younger generation that Buddhism is not just about meditation and asceticism: it's also about fashion. The monks modeled brightly colored, sumptuous robes with intricate embroidery, recited an ancient prayer to a hip hop beat and ended with a grand finale involving confetti shaped like lotus petals. Call it Project Buddhism if you like: these monks have just made the runway the ninth of the eightfold paths. #ceas #hacker #japan #tsutsui
