Abstract
The primary source materials needed for historical inquiry in education are routinely lost or hidden from the eyes of interested scholars owing to lack of attention to records retention at the local level and lack of visibility in standard finding aids and directories to historical research materials. This paper outlines a number of challenges facing the would-be conservators and users of historical and archival collections in education, as well as a number of opportunities for improving on the existing situation.
