Abstract
The Accused is a fantasy novel that takes the form of transcripts and evidentiary exhibits from the trial of the autistic protagonist, who recounts her efforts to protect her abusive family and unwelcoming community by putting a stop to a demon plot to destroy the barrier separating the human and demon realms. To do so, she allies with a monster whose influence prompts her to reconsider her own sense of identity, belonging, and what makes a life worth saving; the ensuing reckoning explores themes of othering, marginalization, disability, and queerness.
