Abstract
This thesis is primarily concerned with the reaction of benzoyl chloride and various nucleophilic agents in the presence of pyridine or quinoline. Nucleophilic agents are defined as Lewis bases or electron-pair donors and, in one form or another, react with electrophilic agents which are defined as Lewi acids or electron-pair acceptors. Thus this fundamental, acid-base relationship is used, even is implicitly, for the explanation of chemical reactions.
Theoretically as least, much of the present work is based on the reactions of enolizable ketones with acylating agents in the presence of pyridine. Thus it would seem appropriate to focus our initial attention on the reported use of ketones.
