Abstract
Broadcast Transcript: Airline travel is becoming ever more of a pain. Long lines at security and check-in, lost baggage, and delayed or canceled flights are just a few of the troubles encountered on a regular basis. And now, travelers on China Southern Airlines are facing a new type of pain: one that hits below the belt. To save money, passengers are being strongly encouraged to use the restroom before boarding. Why? Because China Southern calculates that it requires one liter of fuel to flush an airline toilet at 30,000 feet. Apparently the energy used for just one flush will run a compact car at least 6 miles. Any chance this same cost cutting measure might be applied to U.S. air carriers? Unlikely. It just won't fly here. #ceas #china #tsutsui #ladd
