Abstract
Intimate partner violence (IPV) victims face harassment from their partners while at work which in turn affects their productivity, 56% are late for work due to IPV issues, 54% miss work, 28% go home early and 96% experience general work problems related to IPV. Since most adults spend a significant amount of time at work, IPV becomes an issue that should not be overlooked at places of employment. The purpose of this project was to increase IPV awareness among hospital employees through education, identification in self and others through self-screening, and providing information about local resources available for IPV support. This project used a quality improvement design to implement the awareness campaign at The University of Kansas Health System (TUKHS). A campaign webpage was developed and it included an educational video, a self-screening tool, and a list of local IPV resources. Qualitative data was collected from a focus group previewing the video, and quantitative data from the webpage views and RBC referral data. The 24/7 web page had an estimated 35,000 views per day on the launch and relaunch days and 500 weekly views. The RBC bridge referral statistics showed an increase (n=38 in 2020 and n=46 in 2021) in overall referrals when data from 2020 and 2021 were compared. This project achieved and exceeded its goal to raise awareness of the targeted setting. The scope expanded to four other hospital systems and two other domestic violence agencies expressed interest in receiving information on this project for their hospital partners.
