Abstract
This paper examines Marcuse's approach to the major problem of capitalism-the domination of subjective reason over objective reason. It is argued that Marcuse's approach to this problem differs from the approach of Critical Theory. It is further argued that there is a contradiction in Marcuse~ argument, namely, the contradiction between revolutionary change and the change suggested by Marcuse's aesthetic perspective.
