Abstract
In the United States, neither adults nor children regularly consume the recommended daily amounts of fruits and vegetables. Many nutrition interventions leverage the power of social influence to improve compliance with dietary guidelines, but few attempt to leverage one of the most powerful and proximate influences on most of our lives – our families. Our behaviors and habits surrounding food consumption are heavily influenced by our family interactions around food. This thesis explores the nutritional challenges facing a sample of middle-income American families and synthesizes that research into a design proposal for an intervention that attempts to increase produce intake for family members of all ages.
