The English Suffix -Wise and its Productivity from the Non-Native Speaker Perspective
(Inštitut za slovenski jezik Frana Ramovša, Znanstvenoraziskovalni center, Slovenska akademija znanosti in umetnosti / Hall Center for the Humanities, University of Kansas, 2009-01-01) Sicherl, Eva
SLV: Članek skuša osvetliti produktivno rabo angleške pripone wise v sodobni angleščini, njene različne pomene in možne prevodne ustreznice v slovenskem jeziku. Slovenščina besedotvorno gledano ne pozna enake možnosti izpeljave za izražanje teh pomenov, zato se mora pri prevajanju zateči v opisne ustreznike. ENG: The article aims to shed some light on the productive use of the suffix -wise in present day Eng¬lish, its meanings, and possible equivalent paraphrases in the Slovene language, which, from the word-formational point of view, does not employ the same derivational tool to express the same meanings.

The Language of the Stock Exchange – A Contrastive Analysis of the Lexis
(Inštitut za slovenski jezik Frana Ramovša, Znanstvenoraziskovalni center, Slovenska akademija znanosti in umetnosti / Hall Center for the Humanities, University of Kansas, 2009-01-01) Božinovski, Biljana
SLV: V članku je podana analiza jezika borze s stališča slovensko-angleške protistave. Izrazje (samo¬stalniške zveze) obeh jezikov smo protistavili tako v strukturnem kot v semantičnem smislu, pri čemer se je razkrilo več protistavnih značilnosti, med drugim različni načini ubeseditve istega pojma, terminološke praznine in lažni prijatelji, slovensko borzno terminologijo pa zaznamujejo tudi angleške tujke. ENG: The article analyzes the language of the stock exchange from a Slovene-English contrastive view¬point. The specialized lexis of the two languages was juxtaposed as to the structural and semantic differences of their respective terms and expressions (nominal phrases), revealing such contrastive phenomena as different conceptualizations, terminological gaps and false friends, while the Slov¬ene stock exchange terminology is also characterized by English foreignisms.

Slovene as a Foreign Language: The Pilot Learner Corpus Perspective
(Inštitut za slovenski jezik Frana Ramovša, Znanstvenoraziskovalni center, Slovenska akademija znanosti in umetnosti / Hall Center for the Humanities, University of Kansas, 2009-01-01) Stritar, Mojca
ENG: A learner corpus is an electronic collection of texts produced by non-native speakers learning a certain language. The article presents the pilot Slovene learner corpus PiKUST. Its design has faced two major challenges: the development of a reasonable set of criteria for collection and selection of learner material, and the development of an error annotation scheme. The error taxonomy and tagging procedure are described and, finally, the application of corpus results to teaching material is demonstrated.

Glagoli premikanja v frazemih slovenskega knjižnega jezika
(Inštitut za slovenski jezik Frana Ramovša, Znanstvenoraziskovalni center, Slovenska akademija znanosti in umetnosti / Hall Center for the Humanities, University of Kansas, 2009-01-01) Savelieva, Elena
SLV: Prispevek obravnava frazeme z glagolsko sestavino premikanja in jih analizira s tematskega vidika. Poskuša odgovoriti na vprašanje, katere pojme tematizirajo frazemi s tovrstno sestavino, kakšno je razmerje med pomenom sestavin (v tem primeru glagola premikanja) in celotnim pomenom frazema in kateri glagoli premikanja imajo večjo vlogo pri frazeologizaciji posameznih pojmov. ENG: The paper treats phrasemes containing verbs of motion and analyzes them from a thematic view¬point. It attempts to answer the question as to what notions are thematicized by the phrasemes of this type, as well as the relationship between the meaning of the elements (in this case, verbs of motion) and the phraseme as a whole and which verbs of motion play a greater role in the phrase¬ologization of individual notions.

    O predponsk(oobraziln)ih glagolih v slovenščini
(Inštitut za slovenski jezik Frana Ramovša, Znanstvenoraziskovalni center, Slovenska akademija znanosti in umetnosti / Hall Center for the Humanities, University of Kansas, 2009-01-01) Žele, Andreja
SLV: Prispevek na slovenskih zgledih načenja vprašanje predponsk(oobraziln)ih vrednosti pri glagolih in soodvisnosti med predponskimi oz. predponsko-priponskimi obrazilnimi morfemi in predložnimi morfemi pri glagolih – slednje, tj. soodvisnost med glagolskimi obrazilnimi in predložnimi mor¬femi, se odraža v razporeditvi vidskosti, faznosti in prislovnosti. ENG: Based on examples in Slovene the paper deals with the question of prefixal-formative values in verbal prefixed derivatives and the interdependence between prefixal formatives and prepositional morphemes in verbs. This interdependence is reflected in the distribution of aspectual, phasal, and adverbial features between prefixal formatives and prepositional morphemes.

Slovenski oziralni odvisniki v naravni skladnji
(Inštitut za slovenski jezik Frana Ramovša, Znanstvenoraziskovalni center, Slovenska akademija znanosti in umetnosti / Hall Center for the Humanities, University of Kansas, 2009-01-01) Cvetko Orešnik, Varja; Orešnik, Janez
ENG: Natural Syntax (a branch of Naturalness Theory) defines presuppositions with whose help certain aspects of Slovenian relative clauses can be predicted. Selected instances of relative clauses featur¬ing (1) ki + resumptive pronoun, (2) kateri, and (3) relative adverbials are treated. What is essential is the implementation, in the naturalness scales, of parallel and chiastic alignment of corresponding values.

Vpliv Agustičeve publicistične dejavnosti na razvoj knjižne prekmurščine
(Inštitut za slovenski jezik Frana Ramovša, Znanstvenoraziskovalni center, Slovenska akademija znanosti in umetnosti / Hall Center for the Humanities, University of Kansas, 2009-01-01) Ulčnik, Natalija
ENG: Imre Agustič (1837–1879), whose entrance into Slovene public awareness began in the 1870s when he began publishing the Budapest-based journal Prijatel (1875–1879), developed in his jour¬nalistic writing all of the functional registers of a standard Prekmurje language: publicistic, artistic, professional, and practical/communicative. As the author of the majority of the articles in the jour¬nal he successfully adapted to various stylistic demands and furnished innovative coinages to meet the need for the stylistic expansion of the Prekmurje standard language.

Slovene Place Names with the Suffix -ina: Some Difficult Cases and Implications for South Slavic Onomastics
(Inštitut za slovenski jezik Frana Ramovša, Znanstvenoraziskovalni center, Slovenska akademija znanosti in umetnosti / Hall Center for the Humanities, University of Kansas, 2009-01-01) Snoj, Marko
ENG: The paper focuses on Slovene and certain other South Slavic geographical name families in which the local or regional name is formed with ina and the corresponding adjective and ethnonym are formed from bases without this suffix. On the basis of transparent examples in terms of etymology and sound changes a word-formational process can be discerned which can be applied to solve more difficult cases, such as Slovene Gameljne and Serbian Priština. Furthermore, a terminological proposal for onomastic terminology is proposed, namely, that in instances where the adjective or ethnonym are not derived from the (whole) base of the place name, the term unconsolidated family of names be used.

Prekmurje Grammar as a Source of Slavic Comparative Material
(Inštitut za slovenski jezik Frana Ramovša, Znanstvenoraziskovalni center, Slovenska akademija znanosti in umetnosti / Hall Center for the Humanities, University of Kansas, 2009-01-01) Greenberg, Marc L.
ENG: The paper, which was prepared for and delivered at the 16th Biennial Balkan and South Slavic Conference in Banff, Canada, makes the case for the publication of the 1942 Prekmurje Slovene grammar in manuscript, Avgust Pavel’s Vend nyelvtan, not for the purpose of reviving a competing literary language, but as a useful source of information for typological, comparative and historical studies of the Slavic languages.

Pitch Opposition in Sele: Slovene Tone Loss in Austrian Carinthia
(Inštitut za slovenski jezik Frana Ramovša, Znanstvenoraziskovalni center, Slovenska akademija znanosti in umetnosti / Hall Center for the Humanities, University of Kansas, 2009-01-01) Lundberg, Grant H.; Priestly, Tom
SLV: Prispevek opisuje strojno razčlembo sodobnega stanja tonemskih nasprotij v slovenskem govoru vasi Sele na avstrijskem Koroškem. Študija, ki je bila izvedena poleti in jeseni 2007, kaže, da so tonemska nasprotja dosledno ohranjena pri starejši generaciji, medtem ko se pri mlajši izgubljajo, čeprav ne dosledno. ENG: This paper is a description of an instrumental analysis of the contemporary state of tonemic op¬positions in the Slovene micro-dialect of Sele in Austrian Carinthia. The study, conducted during the summer and fall of 2007, indicates that tonemic oppositions are uniformly preserved among the older generation and being lost, although not uniformly, among the younger generation.
