This project has been translated into an ongoing debate between various proponents of opposing viewpoints in the literature on construction. In this paper I propose to analyze and compare the three major approaches toward theory construction, and the methods to which they adhere. In accomplishing this task I will concentrate on three main exemplars of these competing approaches: "grounded" theory advanced by Barney G. Glaser and Anselm L. Strauss; "propositional" theory by Hubert M. Blalock; and "exact" theory by David Willer.Publication WHY DOESN'T HE MENTION SO-AND-SO?(Department of Sociology, University of Kansas, 1980-04-01) Spencer, Martin E.Publication Mid-American Review of Sociology, Volume 5, Number 1 (SPRING, 1980): Back Matter(Department of Sociology, University of Kansas, 1980-04-01)Publication CLINICAL SOCIOLOGISTS: COMING OUT OF THE CLOSET(Department of Sociology, University of Kansas, 1980-04-01) Swan, L. It focuses primarily on the original works of Claude Levi-Strauss, but also incorporates and critically reviews certain aspects of Ekeh (1974) and Turner (1974). Although Levi-Strauss is an anthropologist, his theoretical insights can be especially useful to the sociologist interested in macrosociology.
